Why The Need
For The Green Genie Washdown And Recycling Systems *
The UK Government through Defra and the Environment
Agency set targets to reduce
water pollution by at least 20% by the end of
this decade. To this end new Groundwater Regulations
where introduced in response to EU Directives.
The Groundwater Regulations 1998, no
2746 came into force under Pollution
Prevention Guidelines PPG legislation.
These new stricter guidelines set very
clear standards for hydrocarbon, grease
and oil being entering the watercourse
or main sewer network.
This guideline together with the voluntary inititive
(VI) being introduced regarding
the washdown of machinery that has been in contact with pesticides,
fertilisers, and organic
waste has meant that groundsmen, greenkeepers and the agricultural sector
now have direct responsibility to
prevent pollution entering the groundwater and main sewer
network from their equipment.
The two major Pollution Prevention
Guidelines are: PPG9 regarding fertilisers and pesticides,
PPG13 regarding hydrocarbon etc. pollution using
pressure washers.
Grass cutting machinery and sprayers will emit
particles of oil, grease, fertiliser
and pesticides etc. when being pressure washed. Green Genie
offers a closed "loop water" management
recycling system that
not only treats the effluent, preventing
pollution but then recycles the effluent
in a cost effective and environmentally
friendly manner.
The EA and Defra
have published lists
of substances that
must not directly
enter the drainage network
or groundwater, these can be seen
on the government web pages. www.defra.gov.uk
* The Green Genie offers a low maintenance solution
to the exacting
new standards being set for our industry.
